A very warm welcome and thank you for taking the time to look at Kate Turner Childminding. I provide high quality childcare in Hucknall, Nottingham. I am a qualified primary school teacher and SENCO. I taught primarily in KS1 and the Foundation Stage for over 25 years. My last teaching post was as an Early Years Leader. I am also happily married to Simon and mum to two teenagers.
I am passionate about Early Years and I believe it is a privilege to help young children at the start of their learning journey. At Kate Turner Childminding, the children learn through play, they spend lots of time outdoors, digging in mud, jumping in puddles, using their imaginations, telling stories and doing all the things I passionately believe are best for very young children and have been the favourite part of my teaching career.

I hope that this information has given you more insight into Kate Turner Childminding and will help with choosing childcare for your child. Choosing the right childcare provider is such an important decision. It is only natural to feel anxious about leaving your child in the care of someone else, a person that you initially don't even know very well.

I only provide care for EYFS children (those children who are under 5 years old) so that we can go on lots of adventures without the constraints of school runs and I can therefore tailor the EYFS curriculum exactly to the needs of the young children I care for.
I have worked hard to create a homely child-minding setting where children can learn and have fun. Each day there is a balance between routine and spontaneity and free play and structured activities. This means the children have consistency and a reassuring pattern to their day, but they are also filled with exciting new adventures and experiences.
As a Registered Childminder and Early Years Teacher, I follow the Early Years curriculum. The EYFS underpins everything I do. I regular introduce themes and topics into the playroom so that the children have new learning opportunities.
During the day, I communicate with parents using a private WhatsApp group that's just about their child. I send regular in the moment photographs' and updates about our day.
I have a dedicated playroom, which is a safe and engaging environment, created specifically for babies and young children, with age appropriate resources, and child-sized furniture. The children are welcome to access all the resources available, which are updated and rotated when necessary to follow their interests and suit their changing needs.
The children can play in our spacious lounge and it is also used as a quiet space for nap times and quiet activities. The children sleep in travel cots or on nursery sleep mats and each child has their own bedding
I have a downstairs bathroom for the children to use. They have their own dedicated towels. I store spare nappies, wipes and changes of clothes in the children’s individual storage tubs.
I have created a safe and engaging garden with a large lawn, decking, and growing area. Fences on all sides enclose the garden and at the side of the house, the garden secured with a locked high gate. There is a wide selection of outdoor toys for the children to explore daily. This includes a playhouse, slide, balance bikes, rockers, cars and pull along trucks.
I have a dedicated ‘Mud Kitchen’ area for the children to play in a natural environment. Resources are regularly changed to enhance the children’s exploration and learning. I also have a wonderful growing area with a greenhouse. The children have the opportunity to grow and eat their own fruits and vegetables.
Healthy living is important to myself and my family. The children are offered balanced foods and snacks and home cooked meals. I provide breakfast, lunch and a home cooked tea everyday alongside a snack in the morning. I am fully trained in food hygiene and preparing food safely.
We all eat around my kitchen table together. I help the younger children eat until they have mastered using cutlery themselves. Any dietary requirements or allergies can be catered for.
I believe that the world outside our door is an amazing environment for children to learn in. We regularly visit local woods, fields, parks, library and town to enable me to enhance the children’s learning experiences.
