Hello, my name is Caitlin and I am a Mum of 1 living in Southampton. My background is in the Maritime industry, most recently in Marine Compliance and Risk Management, but I decided to make the switch to child development and early learning. I wanted a career that meant I could be more present for my son whilst also helping other children to reach their full potential and become the best version of themselves. I live with my husband, son and 3 cats, and we are sometimes joined by my stepchildren who are 4 and 13.
I love exploring the outdoors and look forward to sharing my love with children whilst also providing them with a caring, kind and exciting home from home environment.childminding after having my son and discovering my passion for childcare
Purpose built playroom separate from the main house with direct access to a secure back garden and kitchen. Separate front door for ease of transitions and to support children in understanding and acknowledging the differences between home and my setting. My setting is warm and inviting and has areas for different types of play, as well as separate areas for cooking, eating and sleeping if required.
Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm (breakfast club from 0730 if needed)
I will be focusing on early years children and will not offer wrap around care so I can focus my energy on the children that need it most before they enter the school system. I will offer funding for eligible children and also accept payments via tax free childcare and childcare vouchers.
Through my children I have a good parent/provider relationship with 2 local nurseries and a local school, as well as a good relationship with external agencies and the local authority. The local authority have been supportive throughout my registration process and have provided me with advice and guidance to facilitate my successful start up.
If a child comes to me for care that also attends another setting or have involvement with external agencies, I will start building a relationship from day one by contacting the relevant agencies via email.
All access points will be step free to ensure inclusivity for children with mobility issues and eliminate trip hazards. Bathroom facilities are on the first floor, but I will always be on hand to offer assistance to children that may struggle with stairs. Activity resources and toys will be inclusive and books will cover a range of different children of differing minorities to teach children about diversity and the importance of inclusivity. Any child that comes to my setting who has a different native language to English will be encouraged in British Values but also be provided with opportunities to embrace their heritage and culture through foreign language books.
The main playroom is directly off the kitchen for ease when undertaking cooking activities and for meal times, however the door can be secured so children do not have constant access. Sliding patio doors lead from the playroom directly to the garden which has an abundance of plants and flowers (my husband is a keen gardener) as well as fruits and vegetables that children can help nurture and grow. Half the garden is lawn with suitable outdoor toys and secure boundaries.
